CUPSは標準仕様ベースの印刷システムであり、Mac OS Xや他のUnixライクなオペレーティングシステムが対象です。System VやBerkeleyといった既存仕様で定義されているコマンドラインインターフェースに対応しており、さらに、印刷のジョブやキューの管理のための基準としてはインターネットプリンティングプロトコル（IPP）が用いられています。ラインプリンタデーモン（LPD）、サーバーメッセージブロック（SMB）、AppSocket（別名：JetDirect）といったプロトコルも機能限定でサポートされています。CUPSを使えばネットワークプリンタのブラウジングができるようになったり、PostScriptプリンタ記述（PPD）ベースの印刷オプションが使えるようになったりすることから、現実世界での印刷もサポート対象となっています。

JasperReports は Java の報告書作成ライブラリです。 XML で書かれた報告書テンプレートを使い、印刷可能な整形された文書を生成します。 使用するデータを得るためのデータソース（JDBCを含む）はカスタマイズ可能です。 生成した報告書はスクリーン、プリンタに出力するか、PDF, HTML, XLS, RTF, CSV, XMLの各フォーマットで保存することができます。

HTMLDOCは HTMLファイル、Web ページをオンラインでの表示および印刷に適した索引付きHTML、PostScript、およびPDFファイルに変換します。スタンドアロンのGUIアプリケーションとして、文書のバッチ処理環境として、Webベースのレポート生成アプリケーションとして、またはHTMLコンテンツの印刷をサポートするために組み込み環境で使用することができます。すべてのUnixプラットフォーム、Mac OS XおよびWindows 2000以降で動作します。

DynamicReports is a Java reporting library based on JasperReports. It allows you to create dynamic report designs and it doesn't need a visual report designer. You can very quickly create reports and produce documents that can be displayed, printed, or exported into many popular formats such as PDF, Excel, Word, and others.

Gutenprint (formerly Gimp-Print) is a collection of printer drivers for Unix/Linux that currently supports over 1400 printers. It emphasizes quality and flexibility, offering a wide variety of options to meet most printing needs. It includes a CUPS driver, an IJS-based Ghostscript driver, Foomatic data, an enhanced Print plugin for The GIMP, and other printer maintenance utilities. It can be used equally well for fast printing of text or critical printing of high quality graphics and photographs.

CUPS-PDF is a PDF writer backend for CUPS. It is designed to produce PDF files in a heterogeneous network by providing a PDF printer on the central fileserver. It will convert files printed to its queue in CUPS to PDF and put them in a per-user-based directory structure. It can execute post-processing scripts, e.g. to allow mailing the results to the user.

Argyll is an ICC compatible color management system. It supports accurate ICC profile creation for scanners, CMYK printers, and film recorders, and calibration and profiling of displays. Spectral sample data is supported, allowing a selection of illuminants observer types, and paper fluorescent whitener additive compensation. Profiles can also incorporate source specific gamut mappings for perceptual and saturation intents. Gamut mapping and profile linking uses the CIECAM02 appearance model, a unique gamut mapping algorithm, and a wide selection of rendering intents. It also includes code for a fast 8-bit raster color conversion engine as well as support for fast, fully accurate 16-bit conversion. Device color gamuts can also be viewed and compared using a VRML viewer.

PoDoFo is a C++ library to work with the PDF file format. It also includes also a few tools. It includes classes to parse a PDF file, modify its contents in memory, write the changes back to disk, and create new PDF files. The PoDoFo tools are simple tools built around the PoDoFo library. These tools are primarily examples of how to use the PoDoFo library in your own projects, although they offer useful features for working with PDF files.
