OSXnews is a small, fast Cocoa news reader.

LottaNZB aims to simplify and automate downloading of binary news from Usenet. You can tell it what to download using NZB files, which are created by many Usenet search engines. It integrates nicely with GNOME desktops, but is not limited to them, and uses the mature SABnzbd software as its foundation.

inpath2dot takes the data generated by inpath and
puts it in a format usable with dot and neato (of
the Graphviz Toolkit).

newnewsgroups is a program which polls news servers to get a list of the new newsgroups since the last poll. It is useful if you use something like suck, which does not report new newsgroups, to fetch news for offline reading.

Newsbinripper is a set of shell scripts that works
as a frontend to nget and other tools (unrar,
id3info, file, mogrify, and par2repair) to
automate the process of downloading daily updates
from usenet, and generate a customizable Web site
with galleries or an easy-to-navigate folder
structure for standard file browsing.

ngmlstat is a Perl program for producing reports
on the traffic in USENET news groups or on
mailing-lists. Traffic is broken down by
time-of-posting, timezone of origin, author, and
thread. Reports are produced in HTML, but the
output is reasonably text-mode-browser friendly.

Newsleech is an NNTP client that automatically retrieves groups of articles or lists of articles and sends them to standard output, files, or the standard input of some other program. It gets its commands from the commandline, a script, or both.

MCNTP is a proctocol and an implementation of that protocol to exchange NetNews articles between servers in a bandwidth-friendly way. The package contains the complete suite of tools and is ready to run with a news server that uses the classical spool concept (such as INN 1.x). As of 1.2, there is also support for the INN 2.x storage API.

Postfilter is a Perl filter for Internet Net News (innd) that checks all messages sent by local users searching for spam and invalid content. Although it's designed for large sites that need a complex tool, it could also be used by local or private servers.

aubng is a Usenet binary decoder implemented entirely in Perl5. It has a boatload of features, including: decoding of uuencoded and Base64 postings, assembling multi-part postings, remembering already seen binaries in a newsrc file, saving metadata about news postings, smart renaming of binaries with the same name, removal of duplicate binaries, and easy XML-based configuration. Aubng also features an extensible handler architecture, so it is easy to add your own features.

AnonyNews is a news server and client package with a difference--all posts are
made completely anonymously. The server acts as a single newsroom, with full
support for threaded messages. Clients are available for Linux, Windows, and
Java-enabled machines.
